What does a typical After School Care Session look like?

Roll call and Delicious Afternoon Tea
After roll call, we offer the kids a delicious afternoon tea which changes each day. We offer yummy sandwiches, fruit and veges, and sometimes sweet treats! Some weeks we do food related activities together which helps keep things interesting!

Homework Centre and Learning Areas
We encourage students to do homework and supervise them through this. While after school care is not a substitute for one-on-one parent and child learning, we can help the kids with their work. For those who do not have homework or require a computer, we encourage them to read, be creative or enjoy some downtime while others do homework.

Outdoor Activities and Engaging Play
After Homework and downtime, we move onto the activity of the week. Each week has a theme and we do craft/games based on this theme. After the craft of the week has been done, there is plenty of time for outdoor play and sports. This helps the kids get out some of their extra energy and form bonds between each other.

We provide a variety of enriching activities

Quiet Time
Some kids like to wind down in the afternoon and we completely understand that. We offer a quiet and relaxing space for kids who need a little space after a long school day.

Self-directed Play
There is a large variety of different toys, puzzles and games for children to explore during their session.

Inclusive and Diverse Space
Our schools have a diverse group of kids and we do our best to create a space where everyone is welcome, and celebrated. Specifically, we do lots of activities teaching kids about the diversity of the world and how to be respectful to others.

Outdoor & Physical Activity
We encourage children to play outside or be active indoors as much as possible. We love to play games together to get the energy out of our systems.

Educational Focus
We understand the importance of balancing fun and educational content so we tailor our sessions to either include time for homework or include educational content.

FAQ
Learn to Play, Converse
with Confidence.
Our programme teams will send someone out to pick up new children from their classrooms until they are confident to do it on their own. We recommend you call/text us to let us know your child is new and what their school and room number is before their first day.
Each programme is qualified to receive an OSCAR Subsidy. Qualifying families can apply through Work and Income New Zealand. To find out more on the OSCAR Subsidy and to check if you might qualify, visit our OSCAR Subsidy page.
Our teams are trained in behaviour guidance training to ensure they are well equipped to help a child in this situation. We have Supporting Positive Behaviour Plans in place, which will involve the child, parent/caregiver, and sKids Programme Manager. This requires a team effort by everyone involved to ensure the child is prepared for the development and improvement in behaviour.
If your child requires medication or has allergies our teams should be aware of, please ensure you add all the necessary details on the safety form when you make a booking. Any medication you give permission for our teams to administer or your child to self-administer will be logged and tracked for you.
- Short sessions will be automatically charged at the longer session if the time exceeds 5 minutes.
- We will never leave a child alone and unattended. If your child is not picked up within 15 minutes of the programme closing, we will call parents/caregivers and emergency contacts and there is a charge of $13. Every 15 minutes that passes, the late fee of $13 is added. If we cannot reach any contacts within an hour of the programme closing, the Programme Manager/Franchise Owner will call the police and Oranga Tamariki for advice.
During the school term, we have different requirements depending on the school. Some sites may offer pickups/drop-offs for nearby schools. Please contact us to find out more.
